What is Value Added Tax (EU/UK VAT)?

Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax applied to the value of goods and services purchased in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

The exact rate varies by country. As the name suggests, VAT is added to the price of a product or service at the time of purchase, and it’s paid directly to the relevant tax authority.
