DAC7 is an EU rule requiring platforms to report what their creators earn to national tax authorities. If you live in the EU, we have to collect your tax identification number and report your earnings. If you do not, it does not apply to you.
What it is
DAC7 is the seventh amendment to the European Commission's Directive on Administrative Cooperation. It sets out what platforms that let people earn money have to report, and to whom.
It is not specific to us, and it is not something we opted into. Every platform of this kind operating in the EU reports the same information.
Who it applies to
Creators whose primary residence is in an EU country. Where your bank is, where you were born, and where your ID was issued do not decide it. Where you actually live does.
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden
What we have to do
Collect and verify your tax identification number. Sometimes called a TIN, a tax number, or a VAT number depending on the country. See Where to find your Tax/VAT number.
Report your earnings to your national tax authority. What you earned on Hidden, alongside the identifying details we hold.
Reporting happens on an annual cycle. We will tell you if we need anything from you before a deadline.
What you have to do
Give us your tax identification number, and keep it current. Payouts are held while this is outstanding, so it is worth doing before you have a balance waiting.
Nothing else. You are not filing anything with us, and we are not calculating your tax. What you owe, and to whom, is between you and your tax authority.
If you move
Tell us if your primary residence changes into or out of an EU country, so we can update your tax details. Contact support rather than waiting for us to notice.
Moving into the EU means we start collecting your tax number. Moving out means DAC7 stops applying, though earnings from while you lived there are still reportable for that period.
Common questions
+Does my tax authority find out what I do?
The report covers your identifying details and what you earned. It is about income, not content.
+What if I do not give you my tax number?
Payouts are held. We cannot pay out to an EU creator whose tax information is incomplete, because doing so would put us in breach of the rules ourselves.
+I live in the EU but I am not a citizen.
Residence is what matters, not citizenship. If you live there, it applies.
+I am in the UK. Does this affect me?
DAC7 is an EU rule and the UK is not covered by it. Reporting requirements elsewhere may still apply to you.
+Can you tell me what I will owe?
No. See More Tax Questions.
