If you do not have a VAT number

Last updated 1 September 2026

Leave the VAT field blank if you do not have a VAT number, or if your VAT number and your tax number are the same in your country. That is the correct answer, not a workaround.

Leave it blank if

You do not have a VAT number. Most creators do not. Registration is generally only required above an earnings threshold set by your country, and many people never reach it.
Your VAT number and tax number are the same. In some countries one number serves both purposes. Enter it in the tax number field and leave VAT empty rather than repeating it.

Putting something in the field when it does not apply causes problems with your submission. An empty field is treated as not applicable, which is accurate.

Common questions

+Will leaving it blank hold up my payout?

No, as long as your tax number is complete. The VAT field is only for those who have one.

+Should I register for VAT?

That depends on where you live and how much you earn, and it is a question for an accountant rather than for us. See More Tax Questions.

+I registered for VAT later. What now?

Add the number to your account once you have it, and tell us if you are unsure whether anything else needs updating.

+I entered one and it will not save.

See Tax/VAT number shows as invalid.
