Why didn't my subscription auto-renew?

Last updated 6 August 2026

In short

Subscriptions renew on their own unless something stops them. A renewal that did not happen means the payment failed, the subscription was already cancelled, or something changed on the creator's side.

What stops a renewal

The payment was declined

By far the most common cause. A card that has expired, been reissued, or reached a limit will fail at renewal even though it worked when you first subscribed. Banks also reissue cards with the same number but a new expiry date, which stops a saved card working. See Why did my payment fail?

It was already cancelled

A cancelled subscription keeps running until the end of the period you paid for, then stops. If you cancelled weeks ago and only noticed now, this is why. Cancellations do not take effect immediately, so the gap between cancelling and access ending is easy to forget. The price changed

If a creator raises their subscription price, we do not charge you the higher amount without asking. The subscription ends instead, and you can resubscribe at the new price if you want to.

The creator has left, or blocked you

A deleted account cannot be subscribed to, so the renewal simply does not happen. The same is true if the creator has blocked you.

What happens to your access

When a subscription does not renew, access to that creator's subscription content stops at the end of the period you last paid for. Anything you bought separately, such as an individual paid post, is not affected.

You are not charged anything for the failed attempt, and there is no debt to settle. A subscription that does not renew simply ends.

Starting again

Check that the card on your account is current, then subscribe again from the creator's profile. This starts a fresh billing period from that day rather than continuing the old one.

You pay whatever the price is at that point, so if it went up in the meantime, the new price applies.

Common questions

+Do I lose the content I already paid for?

You keep access for the whole period you paid for. After that, subscription content is no longer available to you, which is the same as with any subscription that ends.

+Will you try the payment again?

We make a few attempts before giving up. If they all fail, the subscription ends and you would need to subscribe again yourself.

+I did not cancel, so why did it stop?

Work through the causes above, starting with the card. If none of them fit, email bill@hidden.com with the creator's username and roughly when it stopped.

+Can I turn auto-renew back on?

Once a subscription has ended you subscribe again rather than restarting the old one. If it is still running, cancelling and resubscribing is not necessary, since it will keep renewing on its own.
